TOWN OF SWANTON

SUMMARY OF THE ORDINANCE RELATIVE TO PUBLIC LANDS

On February 17, 2026, the Selectboard of the Town of Swanton enacted an Ordinance Relative to Public Lands.

This purpose of this ordinance is to regulate access to and camping on public lands (any real estate owned or leased by the municipality located in the Town of Swanton).

Camping as defined in the ordinance shall include the placing of any bedding, sleeping bag, or other material at a site to serve as a sleeping area; the placing of any tent, lean to, other structure or vehicle at a site to serve as s sleeping or living area or the use of any public land in the Town of Swanton.

Access to public lands is prohibited from the hours of 10:00 pm to 7:00 am unless for an official function and an employee or official of the Town of Swanton is present. Camping is prohibited at all times.

Violations are subject to fines as stated in the ordinance.

The ordinance will be posted at the Swanton Town Offices, Swanton Village Offices, Swanton Post Office, M & T Bank and Swanton Public Library.

The Ordinance will be effective April 18, 2026.
