Zoning Administrator

The Swanton Zoning Administrator (ZA) is locally appointed for a 3-year term by the Swanton Selectboard. The ZA advises the Development Review Board (DRB), the Planning Commission, land developers, & members of the public on the zoning bylaws & subdivision regulations for the Town & Village of Swanton. The ZA also issues building, zoning, & sign permits after reviewing the applications for compliance with the land use regulations. The ZA also issues certificates of compliance and occupancy for new construction.

Other duties of the ZA include processing applications for conditional use permits, variance appeals, site plans, lot line adjustments, & minor and major subdivisions. The ZA establishes the hearing date & time for these applications to be reviewed and acted upon by the DRB. Each hearing must be publicly noticed at least 15 days prior to the hearing & notices of the hearing must be mailed to every abutting property owner of the applicant property. The ZA will explain the process in detail as well as the applicable fees. It is best to call for an appointment.
