Mission Statement

The role of the Swanton Economic Development Coordinator (EDC) is to serve as a liaison between municipal government, local businesses and organizations, state agencies, & federal agencies. This includes facilitating communications among these various groups and seeking grants that benefit their operations and the operation of the EDC office. The EDC will work with municipal land use boards to prepare creative ideas and conceptual plans for the development of the downtown village center and other designated growth areas. A primary focus of the EDC is to assist in the retention of existing businesses and to promote Swanton as an ideal place for new businesses to locate. As a part of this mission, the EDC will seek out & explore opportunities and the means to “brand” & market Swanton as a business-friendly community as well as a nice place in which to live, work, and visit.

Infrastructure Maintenance

Both Swanton Town & Swanton Village have active public works departments that plan and implement annual maintenance programs for their respective infrastructures to ensure smooth operations & smooth roads. Swanton Village Electric has the lowest electric rates in the State of Vermont.
